T! Projects: Summer 2003 Poster Run

On Wednesday, July 16th, 2003, Dstln and Mouse set off on the first poster run of the Summer. The event was planned briefly during the couple days before, with Mouse thinking of locations and with Dstln printing the posters and creating a new one, T34. After some calls, the plan was finalized. Mouse drove to Dstln's house and they would meet at a local grocery store, the first place to be hit. There, they would also meet Omdera. Dstln brought the posters and a stapler, Mouse brought a camera, and Omdera was supposed to bring some tape.

Dstln and Mouse arrived at the Sentry mall area. They first entered the store to look for a good place to put the poster. Unfortunately, all the possible boards were unaccessable due to being covered by glass. They went back to the car to wait for Omdera with the tape. During that time, Mouse saw an ad on a phone booth across the road at a Sentry Drugs. Dstln walked over and seeing that the ad was just some lame-o spam from a business, he took the tape from it and used his newly acquired tape to put one T34 up (small version). Trust us, it was for the better good of the people.

At this time, Mouse and Dstln waited further for Omdera until they decided to get some other places and come back to see if they ever arrive. Dstln wanted to wait just a bit longer, so he went back into the Sentry to look at the boards on the other side of the store. In looking, he noticed that they had an announcement to give all non-profit advertisements to the customer service desk. So he went back to the car and picked up a T6 (revised). He asked customer service if they could put the poster up, and they surprisingly looked at it and had no problem with putting it up. Shocked, Dstln returned to the car and told Mouse of the news.

Since Omdera still has not arrived, they left for a nearby Kohl's food store. Dstln went it, scouted the area, and then stapled a T31 to the bottom of an advertisement stand, which would be THE prime location for viewing, although it would probably taken down quickly. Next, they went to a Pick 'N Save. At PNS, T32 was quickly stapled on a board by Dstln and Mouse before people noticed.

They decided at that point to return to Sentry in hopes that Omdera would be waiting. Indeed he was, albeit somewhat upset at 'waiting' and without tape. The three (with Omdera's brother) then decided to take advantage of UW-Waukesha's many advertisement 'poles'. After a short trip, Dstln stapled a T34 on a "Miscellaneous" advertisement pole. To make sure it would stay, it was stapled approximately 10 times and was also tacked for good measure. Still fresh for the hunt, the group turned into a mall they passed on the way back and stopped at another Sentry. Dstln asked a customer service person at this one also, with the same results. Another T6 (revised) was safely being put up behind glass where no wild animals nor wild teenagers could cause it any harm.

As one final stop, they decided on going to a Jewel Osco and finish with Walmart. At Jewel Osco, Dstln again set out with a poster, T31. He couldn't quite find the board that was decided on driving past the store, so he instead wandered around until he found another suitable. And admittedly, the board wasn't totally suitable, but he tacked it on a small public service board anyway. Hopefully it gets at least some looks. Finally, they all went into the Walmart. Dstln bought a large bag of popcorn, but unfortunately, that was the most interesting part of the final trip. Walmart had no suitable place for a poster at all, so Dstln just laid the poster on top of some free magazines. We can only hope that it goes to a good home. At this point, the group decided to end the night and all went home.

Overall, the poster run was quite successful with eight posters total dealt out. Considering the little amount of planning done, there are reasons to believe that a much better planned run could be even much more successful. With better planning, one group could split up and get different areas of a store/place at the same time or just be or save time by being more organize. So, hopefully we will go again soon and have some more fun while entertaining the community and spreading Mr. T's values.
