October 29th was an extremely odd day for the Pro-T Movement. Dstln was going into the Geocities file manager that morning around 10, and he couldn't get in. Mouse also left him an emphatic message that the site was down and he could not get into the file manager. VanRoosta, who got webmaster rights the previous day, said he went in the file manager earlier and everything was gone. Naturally, Dstln wanted to know what was going on. Hmm... all the files were gone and the password was changed. Dstln could only think of two possible reasons: MrFood was to blame or Geocities was going nuts (which does actually happen). Dstln sent MrFood an e-mail soon after and MrFood said that the site was indeed his doing. He said that he was tired of Dstln changing things he didn't want.
Those 'things' in question were eventually found out to be moving of the current projects to the right frame, shortening of the (terribly obnoxious) w000(insert 5 billion 0's)t note and a few other minor changes. For the w00t note, MrFood wrote hidden text both times threatening to change the password if it was changed, but Dstln responded that the site could go on web1000 then. Dstln called his bluff and apparantly MrFood didn't like that.
That night, MrFood and Dstln had a spirited conversation about what happened (yes...spirited...). Dstln thought that the actions were completely childish, that the site change accusations were blown out of proportion, and that the move was overall dumb. MrFood defended his stance as the creator of the site and said that he was adamant about those changes. However, Dstln thought the 'w00t' issue was just a joke (after all, '1337' is a joke) and thought that the other issues were compromised. Apparantly MrFood didn't see any compromising and took the changes as a direct insult to his webmaster powers. Dstln ended saying that much of that was largely miscommunication, which can easily happen online , especially when one party (Dstln) is working on large Computer Science projects.
Dstln indeed had a backup on his computer (for the web1000 project), but it was fairly old. But Google also had newer files cached and the reconstruction got completely finished within a month. But overall, I, Dstln, still feel that the actions of MrFood on that day were a completely childish action and should have been at the very least, talked over (threatening hidden text about '1337' cannot be taken seriously). The website took a while to get back up, many members were worringly wondering about the site, and chances are that other visitors also wanted to know what was going on. In my opinion, there was NO excuse for that. If people visit a site, and especially if they care enough to contribute to it, there is no excuse to delete other people's work. Yes, MrFood started the site, but it wouldn't be nearly as active or prosperous as it is if it wasn't for the visitors and the contributors. If people visit your site, that's one thing. If people contribute to your site, that's a completely different ballgame.
MrFood is still a friend, still a member, and still keeps his rank, but as he said, 'im done webmastering for now'. And Dstln would only let him contribute by sending files. Also, the site is now on constant backup-up on Dstln's computer (partly because of the new FTP method).
The above statements are the opinion of Dstln, which coincide with everyone else's that he has talked on the matter (less MrFood).
